About Us
The first Americana Restaurant was opened in uptown Charlotte, NC in 1966 by Bill Pistolis and George Retsios. It was an immediate success. The Americana was the place to go to see and be seen. The place where all the lawyers, doctors, judges, senators, mayors and governors would go eat, socialize and hold their meetings. Bill and George operated the Americana until the American Credit Building in which it was located was sold. Although their partnership dissolved, Bill and George remain the best of friends to this very day. George went on to other business ventures while Bill opened Basil's Restaurant on Old Pineville Road. Bill and his wife Vicki operated that restaurant and their eldest son George joined them. After 16 years at Basil's, Bill and Vicki decided to sell the business and retire. The opportunity came for George to open his own restaurant after the old Fireside Restaurant in Matthews closed. After extensive remodeling and installing new equipment George named the new restaurant "The Americana" in honor of the Restaurant that his father Bill operated with his partner George Retsios. Carrying on a family tradition of excellent home cooked meals and great service. His mother, Vicki, came out of retirement to help him run the business.
The Americana is closed on Sundays.
